I have breastfed three babies. In fact, I am still feeding one, really our journey just began since he is just 5 months old. With all three the breastfeeding journey has been different. With my first born, she was weak from jaundice which had us in the hospital for a short stay while she received treatments under special lights. I pumped every two hours in the hospital trying to get my milk to come in. This was no way what I had expected breastfeeding to be like after reading so much and even taking a class. I was mentally and physically exhausted. She had really long and slow feeding and when she turned one and weaned I felt huge relief.

With my second born, she refused a bottle for the first 10 months until she finally started drinking from a sippy. I was never far from her side which sometimes made me feel trapped. I pumped, bought every bottle that was suggested to me, but nothing. Val wouldn’t budge. I went to a dinner with my husband one day out of town and she didn’t eat the entire time I was gone. My Mom held her the whole day while she dozed on and off. My Mom tried to get her to take a bottle of pumped milk, but nothing. You can imagine how that left me feeling.

Now, with Anthony, being so close in age to Val, I already had it in my mind that he was going to take a bottle. I just had to be able to get out for a bit and take a mental break. Would I be able to go out for a few hours and know that he wouldn’t be crying out with hunger?

My husband started giving him a bottle from the time he was a week old. Just a little ounce here and there. It really made all the difference. I could hang out with my girls and take them for lunch and know he would be okay.

We’ve been using the Munchkin LATCH with Anthony and I really believe that has made all the difference with the transition from breast to bottle and back again. This bottle is like no other bottle I’ve tried, and believe me, I spent hundreds of dollars trying to find one to work with Val. The technology is just amazing and there are just a few parts.

Here is why I love the LATCH:

  • Has an accordion style nipple that stretches like the breast helping baby LATCH easily and correctly.
  • The LATCH mimics me by releasing more milk as he pushes against the nipples base.
  • The accordion style nipple flexes as he moves so he can maintain his LATCH equally less air ingested and less chances for gas.
  • The anti-colic valve at the base of the bottle allows for the breast milk to flow without any air bubbles traveling through the milk.
  • Slow-flow nipple! When bottle flow and my flow are a close match it makes for a good transition from breast to bottle.
  • Easy to clean, easy to assemble!
  • Wide mouth bottle makes it easy to pour pumped milk into without spilling {liquid gold}.

Its a nice change of pace for me. Our bedtime routine for Anthony includes a final feeding with my husband followed by a bath. Its nice that I can get the girls ready for bed, read them a story, or tend to my own needs with a nice hot shower. The Munchkin LATCH has given me that option.
